Leslie Wrixon - Fly Fishing Team USA Official Fly Tyer Dr. Leslie Wrixon was born and raised in New England. As a youngster, she fished for striped bass and blue fish on the shores of Connecticut and Long Island Sound. She also spent vacations in the Catskill Mountains of New York where she watched her grandfather fly fish. Leslie recalls marveling at the flies, equipment and techniques of fly fishing. It was this time spent in the Catskills and on the Sound that left an early, yet enduring impression on her.
Leslie is no stranger to competitive sports. She was nationally-ranked and an All-American distance runner, having earned a track and field scholarship to Boston College and winning many awards.
Some years later, with a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology behind her, Leslie purchased a fly tying kit to satisfy her long-dormant fascination with tying flies and fly fishing. Largely, she taught herself how to tie flies and she evolved into an active member of the fly tying and angling community. Her flies can be found around the world and Leslie has been a featured tyer in many events. She is involved with the International Women Fly Fishers, the Catskill Fly Tyers Guild, World Fly Fishing Japan, Theodore Gordon Fly Fishers and various other organizations. It is with great pleasure that she joins Fly Fishing Team USA as the official fly tyer for the 2006 World Fly Fishing Championship in Portugal.
