About Jeff's first two books.....................
Currier's Quick and Easy Guide to Saltwater Fly Fishing is destined to become the standard introductory text to saltwater fly fishing.
Jeff Currier is eminently qualified to write this book. As manager of the Jack Dennis Fly Shop in Jackson, Wyoming, he serves trout anglers in the summer, but once the snow flies he pursues salt-water fish all over the world. Currier often takes trout anglers with him, so he has heard their questions and observed the problems they experience on their first ocean trips. Years of introducing freshwater anglers to saltwater fly fishing make Currier the perfect person to write this practical introduction to the sport that includes six types of saltwater ranging from surf, flats, blue water, and coral reefs to channels, river mouths, and estuaries.
No other book about saltwater fly fishing gives the novice the basic information on fishing the salt—the water, equipment, flies, knots, casting, popular game fish, and special tips—as well as Currier's Quick and Easy Guide to Saltwater Fly Fishing. It lives up to the promise of its title and will provide answers before you even know you have questions. The book is printed in full color, includes more than 50 photographs and over for watercolor illustrations. To bring it all together, Jeff includes 16 knots, illustrated step by step, five pages of maps and a trip checklist.
Some reviews...............
Curriers Quick and Easy Guide to Saltwater Fly Fishing is a short, concise guidebook that does exactly what its title says it will do, in just 122 pages. Author Jeff Currier, lives in Idaho and "winters" near saltwater. All the practical advice he gives in his book comes from personal experience. Anyone contemplating their first trip to saltwater with a fly rod should buy this book. Anyone knowing a stubborn flyfisher should make a gift of it a month before they leave. With eight short chapters providing all the basic information needed, the book is further supported by five 'Special Information' appendixes, an astounding 'Selected Bibliography' and a practical, useful index." —Dennis Bitton, Flyfisher Magazine, Autumn 1998
"If you've thought about going after bonefish, tarpon, permit, and other saltwater species with a fly rod, Jeff Currier's introduction might get you out there faster. Designed to demystify a sport that can have even serious freshwater anglers wondering where to start, Currier's Quick and Easy Guide to Saltwater Fly Fishing explains the basics of tackle, tides, and casting. Other chapters cover the common saltwater species one is most likely to encounter and how to safely handle such encounters. Color photos, drawings, and even useful Internet addresses complement the straightforward, no-nonsense text." — AMAZON.com , 2005
"Most fishing guidebooks are written like the directions for a VCR, clinical and virtually impossible to understand. Currier's book about saltwater fishing is delightfully different. Tackle, knots, flies, and the importance of tides are all covered with enthusiasm and even some humor. More to the point, Currier, who runs a Wyoming fly fishing shop but also guides saltwater expeditions in winter, reminds us why we'd want to catch these fish in the first place. High quality photos include examples of gamefish, tackle, and crystalline waters of salt flats. Readers lacking a full complement of will power might just find themselves calling a travel agent, pulling on waders, and casting for dinner. Recommended for public library collections." —Library Journal, 2005
At last, Currier's Quick and Easy Guide to Warmwater Fly Fishing is now available.
You might ask, shouldn't a guy who lives in Idaho be writing about trout? Not necessarily. (But we hope he does!) There are many great books on fly fishing for trout, but few that cover the fly fishing techniques used to catch warmwater gamefish such as bass, pike, bluegill, carp, and more. Ironically, these species are more accessible to the average angler than trout. With thirty years of experience chasing warmwater gamefish with a fly rod throughout North America and the far corners of the globe, Jeff has put together a book that will be an asset to any fly fisherman's collection.
Along with great how to information, Jeff has over fifty color photos and twenty-five full color fish paintings for field identification and tactics to catch them. Step by step knot illustrations for twelve handy knots, fly casting techniques from the basic to the double haul and twenty of Jeff's favorite warmwater fly patterns with recipes to tie them. This latest book from Jeff Currier is in full color with more than 50 color photographs and 25 illustrations.
Jeff is also a world renowned Chicago Cubs fan ! GO CUBBIES . . .
