Barbara Pentoney - Fly Fishing Team USA Traveling Team

Starting in the mid seventies Barbara Pentoney traveled with family to Wyoming and Yellowstone Park every summer to fly fish. In the late seventies her parents had a log cabin in Victor, Idaho near Jackson Hole, Wyoming. This allowed her to continue exploring the Rocky Mountain states for dry fly fishing. During the next fifteen years she fished such places as the Madison River, Henry’s Fork, the Snake River, the San Juan River among hundreds of other creeks and streams in the western states.

While living in Miami, Florida she often accompanied her father and brother on fly-fishing trips to the Florida Keys for bone fish, tarpon, and permit in the early eighties. Big game ocean fishing for marlin, sail fish, dorado, and tuna in Mazatlan, Mexico and more recently in the East Cape of Baja California, Mexico.

During summer and fall with her parent’s ranch near Sun Valley, Idaho, she now is fishing the streams and creeks like the Big Lost River and the Salmon River outside of Mackay, Idaho.

Worked for the Orvis Co. as a fly-fishing instructor in Mammoth Lakes, California, summer/fall of 2001 and in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, summer 2002. California licensed fly-fishing guide. Winter of 2001 started private fly casting lessons in San Diego, California. Travel to fly-fishing shows to promote business.

Winner of 2002 International Sportsmen’s Exposition Women’s Distance Casting Tournament-Los Angeles Show. Third place winner in 2002 ISE’s Salt Lake City Finals-Distance cast of 75 feet 4 inches.

March of 2003 - Federation of Fly Fishers Certified Instructor. April of 2003 one of three women to compete in ESPN’s Great Outdoor Games (Western Qualifier). Placed 12th in a field of 18 anglers. Chosen to compete in OLN’s Fly Fishing Master in California.

January 2004 - Winner of International Sportsmen’s Exposition Women’s Distance Casting Tournament-Los Angeles Show -distance 94 feet1 inches.

March 2004 - Winner of International Sportsmen’s Exposition Women’s Distance Casting Tournament-Finals SLC Show -distance 84 feet5 inches.

May 2004- Invited to try-out for the Fly Fishing Team USA. On the development team to travel internationally to compete in fishing tournaments.

July 2004 - Featured on KPRZ radio show Hot Shots. With Host Todd Curry promoted the sport of fly fishing and interviewed for upcoming trip to Jackson Hole, Wyo for TEAM USA Fly Fishing.

May 2005 - Became member of 15 person Fly Fishing Team USA.
