Scott Robertson - Member, Fly Fishing Team USA 2008

Scott Robertson was introduced to fly tying by his father before he started to fly fish. His father told him when he could cast to the neighbors house he would take him fishing. By the time he was 10 he was double hauling to the neighbor’s house and fly fishing regularly with his father. Growing up in the California Gold Country, he enjoyed fishing high Sierra streams and lakes. When he moved to northeast Nevada, he concentrated mainly on fishing the alkaline lakes in the area.

In 1997 he participated in his first one-fly fishing tournament and sequentially won several local tournaments, which fueled his desire of competitive fly-fishing. In 2004, he teamed up with his father for the Fly Fishing Masters Tournament. Soon after that he competed in his first Fly Fishing Team USA trials in Bend Oregon. Since then he has been participating in Fly Fishing Team USA events. In August 2005 he traveled to Sweden for the World Fly Fishing Championships with Fly Fishing Team USA, to map venues, scout beats and help the team in any way he could.

In October 2005 he competed in the Western Region qualifier in Fresno, California where he qualified for the Western Regional Fly Fishing Team. The Western Regional team competed at the first National Fly Fishing Championships in Boulder, Colorado in 2006 where Scott was chosen as a member of Fly Fishing Team USA.

In February 2007 Scott captained the USA team to the Oceania Fly Fishing Championships in Tasmania where he won the individual Silver Medal and the team brought home the Team Bronze Medal.

Ever since Scott first heard of Fly Fishing Team USA, it has been his goal to develop his fishing skills to a level that will contribute to the performance of this inspirational team.

Scott and his wife Sarah live in Bend, Oregon where Scott works at Sportsman’s Warehouse and guides for Sunriver Fly Shop.
