Rob Kolanda - Member, Fly Fishing Team USA 2008 Rob Kolanda is a Colorado native who has made a living guiding, instructing, and managing in the fly-fishing industry for the past fifteen years. Learning at age ten under the watchful eye of his grandfather he found success that would eventually steer his life in the direction of clear riffles and pools promising the chance of a hungry trout. Rob began his angling career in earnest guiding the small streams of Rocky Mountain National Park and Lower Big Thompson drainage in 1994. Since then he has had the fortune of managing and guiding for outfits in Colorado's Roaring Fork Valley and Alaska's Bristol Bay. For the past six years Rob has been working on Colorado's front range in Boulder, where he currently manages at Front Range Anglers. His personal days out are often spent on stillwaters where he enjoys chasing warm-water fish such as wipers, stripers, and pike in addition to trout. His time not spent on the water or in the shop is often spent behind the vice designing new patterns for Solitude and Brookside Fly Companies, who currently produce his BTS Mayfly/ Mysis/ Scud, Mini Sculpin, GRS, Drakator, and CBP midge patterns. Just ahead of his love for the sport is spending time with his beautiful wife Tammy and six month old (and future Fly Fishing Team USA prospect) son William.
