Lance Egan - Member, Fly Fishing Team USA 2008

Lance Egan was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and has been fly fishing since age 12. He now lives in Sandy, Utah, where he is minutes away from many streams and lakes that Lance considers his “home waters”.

Lance has worked in fly shops since high school and is currently employed at Fish Tech Outfitters in Salt Lake City, Utah.

No one in Lance's family fishes much, but fish have intrigued him since he was even young enough to talk. Lance's parents claim to have caused his fish frenzy. When he was a baby and not sleeping through the night, Lance's parents would prop him up in front of a large saltwater fish tank where he would abruptly stop crying and watch the fish until falling back to sleep.

They think this was the link to his love of fish. "Aren’t fish awesome!!!" says Lance.

When Lance earned his driver's license, he was off fishing every chance he could get. He would fish before work, after work, after school and on days off. From age 16 to 21 he spent more time on the water then most anglers do in a lifetime. Lance currently fishes at least two days a week, or more if he can fit it in to his schedule.

Lance says that "fly fishing is multi-faceted."

"This is what keeps me interested. It has so many details, so many tricks, and so much to learn that it is a never-ending sport. It can be as simple or complex as you like."

Lance enjoys fishing for carp, bass, or saltwater fish as much (or more) than trout. He tells us "with all the species and locations to fish available, one can spend a lifetime angling, and barely scratch the surface. I plan on making a deep scratch."

Among Lance's accomplishments are the following:
