Once again the southern part of Swedish Lapland was visited by the worlds greatest fly fishing teams. These same Swedish organziers arranged the WFFC 2001 and were more than happy to arrange it also in 2005.

Swedish Lapland is an eldorado for the fishing enthusiast with waters suitable for all, whether an amateur or professional fisherman. In a multitude of waters, of great variety, a number of different types of fish thrive. Lapland has 1400 kms of river, more than 20,000 lakes and many more streams, mountain tarns, etc. Furthermore, Europe's longest untamed river -the Vindel River - runs through Lapland for 400 kilometers. The region is sparsely populated, with clean air, pristine waters and deep forests inhabited by the whole range of arctic fauna. The FIPS-Mouche World Fly Fishing Championship 2005 takes place in the 'capital' of Lapland: Lycksele, where a large conference establishment offers comfortable accommodation for more than 800 people. Additionally, Lycksele is the hub of communications in the area with excellent facilities for coach transfers and flights.

The fly fishing in this part of the world is definitely challenging. For grayling and trout often flyfisherman use heavy nymphs/bugs such as czech larvae (olive, green, brown and cream) and often with a little touch of fluorescent red or orange. Flashbacks and gold ribbed hares ear with tungsten bead often does the job as well. Double legs is another good fly for grayling, also with golden tungsten bead. Good sizes for the heavy nymphs are 8-16. Good dryflies are caddis imitations such as elk hair caddis, European 12, floating pupaes in same colors as the czech nymphs. Ants tied with foam are good fishfinders. Olive and grey mayflies in small sizes are sometimes also good during hatches. Midges such as black gnat in # 18-22 are important for artic char fishing during calm evenings in the mountain area. Big trout in the Ammarnäs area want big flies (#2-8) such as muddlers, sculpins, deceivers and baitfish (whitefish) flies.
